MANUAL HANDLING ADVICE PART 2: Using An Active Hoist or Patient Lift To Transfer Clients Into A Monaco or Atlanta

You may have already had a chance to see PART 1 of our latest manual handling video sequence, providing tips and advice for hoisting in and out of the Sorrento.  If not, you can visit HERE.

Today, I want to share with you manual handling tips and advice of how to transfer a client using an active hoist or patient life in and out of the Monaco Assist.

The Seating Matters Monaco Assist is designed to facilitate a stand transfer from the chair using the powered rising seat function. In addition to the posterior angle adjustment, the seat base will also rise upwards which will provide support to perform a standing transfer whilst also creating a safe sitting position.

The tips and advice in transferring your client in and out of the chair can be applied across the full range of Seating Matters chairs. In the following video, manual handling adviser Mary Hickey from Elite Healthcare uses an active hoist. Her expertise is nursing and has a wealth of experience in the field of manual handling.

The video contains useful tips on how to:

  • Correctly fit a sling.
  • Position a hoist correctly.
  • Safely transfer your client in and out of the chair.
  • Use the adjustable angle seat to assist transfers.

At Seating Matters, I have personally trained our Seating Specialists who are equipped to advise you and answer any questions you may have. However, it is important to adhere to your own facility's guidelines and regulations. If you are unsure, it is best to ask the clinician in charge of manual handling in your facility or care trust.
