Martina Tierney OT

Martina Tierney is an Occupational Therapist, Author, Worldwide Educator and Clinical Director at Seating Matters. Since becoming an Occupational Therapist over 30 years ago Martina often had difficulty finding seating solutions for clients with complex needs. To provide a solution to this problem, Seating Matters was established by the Tierney family in 2006, designing and manufacturing a specialised seating range that is changing the world of healthcare seating. The Seating Matters Clinical Team have worked with the Ulster University to carry out an extensive clinical trial with staggering results on the effectiveness of specialist seating in the provision of postural support and pressure management. Martina Tierney is also the author of The Clinician’s Seating Handbook which is used around the world to teach students, clinicians and care givers on seating provision. Martina and the Seating Matters team carry out regular Education Workshops, Lunch & Learns and present our latest research at conferences worldwide to pass this knowledge on so as to influence best practice and improve patient’s lives. Martina has worked with Ulster University in the UK to complete groundbreaking clinical research on the effectiveness of specialist seating for posture and pressure management. We are keen to share this knowledge globally to educate clinicians on evidence based best practice and improve patient care. In order to achieve this we want to showcase the results and more importantly provide practical tips to clinicians and facilities on how to replicate them. Martina is truly inspirational and the certainly the leading expert globally on clinical seating having pioneered the only clinical research of it's kind, the results of which are groundbreaking, with the ability to have transformational impact for patients' quality of life, clinician's workload and healthcare budgets. We are keen to share this knowledge globally to educate clinicians on evidence based best practice and improve patient care. Martina Tierney is also the author of The Clinician’s Seating Handbook which is used around the world to teach students, clinicians and care givers on seating provision.
